What were the readings?

You can also pull the cap. rotor and cover and take a look to see if there is a lot of "dust/rust" and or oil in there.

Default Readings?

Do you mean the trouble code reading?. The light flashed 4 times (crankshaft position sensor). I had just replaced the distributor cap and had noticed oil on the bottom of the distributor but everything else looks good.

Was the inside the dist? If so this could be causing the sensor not to read properly.

Got a pic of the area so we can see as well?

As a temp try, with the car off and the cap, rotor and cover (some have a cover under the dist rotor) off you can clean the oil and that out. Re-install and see of the code goes away for a while....until the oil leak is fixed it will eventually come back.

Default had a mechanic look at it said that the problem was deep in the engine.

I took the car to a friends place and removed the distributor cap as well as the valve cover and spark plugs. The pistons are all moving normally and compression looks good. One thing though when I turned the engine over using the bolt on the upper pulley there seemed to be a hesitation before the cam moved also as I was rotating it the cam seemed to jump forward a bit do not know if this is normal. I would send a pic next time I am back at the car I had plans to go away the next couple of days. Thanks so far.

Well good luck on the trip.

I would not put anything into the "feeling" of spinning the engine over by hand at this point. The code is where I would spend my time, either the sensor or the wires are having issues, spend time there.

Since you've come back a few times, I'm going to move this to Gen Tech for more views. Don't take this this the wrong way but I usually wait on things like this as we get many "one and done" posts so I kind of wait and feel things out before moving a post from the new member section into another.

Default Crankcase position sensor, engine wont run.

Thanks poorman . My mechanic still thinks its the engine that is shot but I have a feeling it is the crankshaft position sensor or ECM. Has anyone had the same issue of a engine trouble lite showing a crankcase position sensor problem and the car not running? Thanks

I had a similar problem on 94EX. Resistance of sensor checked OK, wires from ECM to sensor checked OK, and ECM was replaced to repair problem.

good luck

Default Camshaft pulley key

After more exploration I discovered a loose camshaft pulley bolt which caused the metal key to almost shear off. The camshaft is damaged as well as the camshaft pulley which I have ordered online and hope will fix the problem. I am guessing the trouble light that came on was because the ecm was confused with the mixed up messages it was receiving. Will update when I install the new parts.

Default car back on the road !

I replaced the camshaft and camshaft pulley and woodruff key the car started right up and I ran it for 20min at 1500-2000 rpm to break in the cam. I still do not now how the camshaft pulley bolt had gotton loose other than the last time I had it in to get a new timing belt put on (about 30,000km ago). Thanks to all replied .
