Default 95 EX trans question

I just bought a 95 EX 4 door with 127000 on it. I just replaced the timing chain which was never done.

Does the 95 have a automatic lock up torque converter? When I go down the road maintaining 60mph, long and level, it does not lock up I think. If I let off the gas or get on the gas a bit the rpm will go up or down by 250 rpm or more. If it does have one what should I look at first.
I read about checking the thermostat, which I think I can just Ohm out while letting the car warm up. After that I am not sure what to do.

Any help is welcome

interesting, I am surprised it is not lower since the speed limit in some areas is 55 mph, I will pay closer attention to my speed and see if that works

The lock-up system is not controlled by speed alone, but a combination of speed, load, rpm, etc. built into the TCM. There are five lockup conditions; none, slight, half, full lockup, and deceleration lockup. They can occur in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear.

The TCM will detect if the lockup solenoid is not electrically functioning correctly and set a fault code in the TCM. D4 light should blink if a code is set. One code (3) may not cause the D4 light to blink, so check for a code even if D4 isn't blinking. LU can be disabled by hydraulic fault, which apparently does not set a code in OBD1 vehicles.

If lockup is not working, while cruising at 60mph, you will see an increase (100-200 rpm)in rpm as you enter a slight grade, and a decrease in rpm (100-200 rpm) as you go down slight grade. If lockup is working rpm should hold very close to same value. Not exactly same value as speed control does not maintain a perfectly constant speed.

I have an Acura 2.5TL w/ defective LU torque converter and it exhibits this symptom, along w/ ObD2 code P0740.

good luck

Should D4 blink on start up or when driving when the torque converter should be functioning. I did notice the D4 light blink once tonight when I started the car.

D4 should blink whenever a code is set. Check for a code.

good luck

update:

I changed the thermostat as I saw in another post, didn't fix the problem.
I drove it today and it almost seems that the tc will lock up depending on throttle position.
If i maintain 60-65 it does not lock up, but if I just push the accelerator down just a bit it will lock up every time. If I let off just a bit to maintain 65 or 70 it kicks back out. Other times it seems that it locks up and unlocks 3 seconds later then 5 seconds locks up again only to unlock 3 seconds after that.
There are no codes, D4 lights just for a second when starting the car with the rest of the idiot lights but does not flash.

reading the shop manual I Ohmed the lock up solenoid and tested them- check out OK
pulled them out and checked the screens screens and fluid- checked out OK

Now what???
