Default 95 Honda Accord Distributor Key

I have 95 Accord VTEC and pulled the distributor out so I could replace the heater core hose beneath and noticed that the distributor key? (bottom of distributor shaft that keys into the cam, not sure of actual name) is missing one of the prongs... I have no idea how long this key prong has been broken, where it ended up in the engine, or how it broke. I've seen this issue on other sites but nothing conclusive or even a closed thread on how someone actually fixed this without replacing the whole distributor. I called Honda to order just the distributor key and they said they only sell the distributor as a whole unit for $640!!! Other places said the same thing with cheaper prices. The key comes off the bottom of the distributor as it's own part so someone has to sell this part, anyone have any ideas where I can find this part or what the technical term is for the part?

Only a used part would allow removal/installation to your distributor. You are unlikely to find the exact part only for sale. Check ebay or local junkyards for a used distributor.

good luck

I agree 100%, as to that being your best choice.
A couple of weeks ago, a member mentioned that the tab (ears?) had broke off in his engine, and he replaced the entire distributor. He was trying to figure out where the pieces went, and how to get them out. Keep in mind that they're just cast iron (maybe ductile iron) , so they can be fragile. About the only way I know of to break them off would be to install the distributor incorrectly.
You'll have to remove the spiral piece before you can drive the pin out. Mark the end of the distributor with the offset (on the shaft end), so that when you put it back together it'll run and not be 180 out.

Remove the valve cover (about 10 mins) and retrieve the pieces w/ a magnet. Only possible damage would be interference w/ valve train. Pieces are likely too large to exit down oil drain gallery.

good luck
