96 accord Burnt gas smell
So my whole downpiping is all messed up with mulitple air leaks and bad welding
can this maybe be why the smell is coming out the exhaust

Yes it could definitely be the cause. Outside air in the exhaust will fool the O2 sensor and probably make your car run rich.
