Not sure where to ask this but will a 97 transmission work in a 96?

 

Yes. 96 and 97 are close to identical; pretty much everything can be swapped between the two.

 

Ok so i bought a 97 tranny mechanic put it in and car wont engage in gear is there any suggestions the guy i bought it from swears it works

 

What does the installing mechanic say?

 

Well he says honda not his specialty basicly start looking for another tranny i am devastated that someone would sell me a junk tranny was praying there could be another thing to check i know mechanic took selonoids from old one because new one didnt have them
