97 Accord handful of problems, need help for d.i.y.
Hi all!
Car: 1997 Honda Accord, 2.2 vtec, 4 door, Auto trans, 243,000+
Well I guess I can make a list, but the importance of the ac issue is the highest. I live in southern Texas. The ac in my accord will blow cold momentarily, but then it changes to searing heat. Also, even without any ac on and the vents closed, very hot air seems to coming from the floorboard areas on both sides. As I am young and stupid, I thought I could take the heat and got heatstroke... Long story short, almost got it again and realized I need to address this. I was advised to check the heater control cable and make sure it is still connected, but cannot locate said part through my haynes(? Dunno which brand, no cover and missing some pages). Would love some help and ideas because I am a broke *** student also... Please help!

The heater valve and cable is located near the engine compartment firewall. Check that the valve is opening and closing properly and that the cable is firmly attached.
You can download an online service manual from one of the links in the DIY sticky located above in this forum section. I believe the 1994 USDM service manual has most of the info. as the 5th generation Accords were all very similar. If you want, you can also download the different year supplements; but, they don't have too much additional practical info.

The valve actuator cable may have come loose on the heater controls. If you look under dash on pax side you can find the actuator crank and cable end by turning the temp control dial on the AC/Heater control panel.
You may need to resecure the actuator cable and reanchor the cable sleeve.
Texas has had a brutal week of heat this week, especially for June which is usually just hot, not gasping, choking hot.
good luck
