I've got a 97 Accord LX 4cyl. 150k miles. Check Engine light came on and we got it diagnosed. Mechanic said it was the transmission code and reset it. He said see if it comes on again, and if it does consider a tranny fluid flush. If that doesn't help, then it's probably the tranny itself.

Two days later the light has come back on, and we definitely can tell there is something wrong. Shifting gears (automatic) feels different, and today my wife said it wouldn't shift out of the 35mph.

My question: should I spend the money on a fluid flush in hopes that might be it? Or is it safe to say the tranny's gone?

What specific code did it set? Codes are reported as P then four numbers.

You should be able to stop by an autozone and have them read the code(s) for you. Report all the codes and we will be able to give you more detailed instructions.

 

Thanks. The code for the problem is "P07000 A/T System Malfunction".

I'm dropping it off at a Lube shop for a $43 drain-and-fill. I figure that can't hurt. And maybe that will fix it?
