Default 98 Honda Accord -Timing Belt Intervals...

1998 Accord LX 4 cyl automatic ( 185,000 miles)

I got this car for my daughter 4 years ago. The previous owner did not know anything about cars and could not tell me whether the timing belt was changed. So I had that done at 145,000 when we bought the car.

Honda said it is good for 6 years or 100,000 miles, when they changed it.

My question is - what if it is only been 50,000 miles but 6 years, does it still need to be changed even though it has 1/2 the recommended miles? I know my daughter does not drive hard (if that makes a difference). Just wondering which is more important to watch... the miles or the years of the timing belt?

Honda shop manual says interval is good for 7 yrs or 105K miles, whichever comes first. Looks like you'll run into time limit first.

Both time and mileage are important and no one can tell you to ignore one over the other.

good luck

Thank you Tex... my daughter is a senior in college and hopefully she will graduate next year and still have a decent car for 1-2 more years looking for a job!
