Thanks for all you're help.
Here's the verdict.
I replaced the busted Delphi alternator with a Bosch alternator. The battery was reading a hearty 14.4V afterwards.
While I was under the hood, I cleaned out the EGR port (no kit). No more CEL/P0401. It was 100% plugged and the inlet on the block was partially blocked.
All is well.
