99 Honda Accord Stuggling to Shift into Gears - Wont Go over 80 kmh.
Hi all,
I own a 99 Honda Accord, 4 Cylinder, 305 000 km.
Today coming back from work, I noticed that after I got off the high-way (Canadian Winter), the car was jerking and struggling to shift into 1st gear, then 2nd gear. As I press the gas, the car would rev until it catches the gear some time after, and jerk. So I took it back onto the highway to test it, and the car wont go over 80kmh, it keeps revving and reach 5000 rmp, but wont shift into the gear after.
I checked the transmission fluid. The rod had this indicator, |XXX|, and mine was 2/3 full, although a bit brownish.
Does anyone have a clue or idea, on what might be wrong?
Am i going to have to replace the damn transmission?
Thank you.

FYI, the 98-02 accord transmissions were known to have premature failures.
Does the D4 light start flashing when driving, or does the check engine light turn on? If so, have the codes scanned to see if that can help narrow down the problem.
When was the last time the transmission fluid was changed?

I have not had the codes scanned. The D4 light have never came on. Check engine light has been on for ages.
I have not changed the transmission fluid in couple of years. But could that really be the problem, since this happened suddenly, and not gradually.
Thank you.

Compared to replacing a transmission, getting the codes scanned and changing the transmission fluid cost way less.
If a sensor is out on the transmission, this could cause all kinds of shifting problems. Scanning the computer codes could lead you towards a bad sensor and is free to do, so definitely try that. Post the actual code number on here. The code will start with the letter P and have 4 numbers, like P1234.
Cleaning clogged shift and lockup solenoids and the screen on the gasket would also be cheap item to try. That would require unbolting the solenoids and spraying the seal and solenoid with throttle body cleaner.
