Abs disable???
I have driven on a lot of snowy and icey roads. Snow and non-ABS brakes don't bother me, but icey roads is another thing. I have always been fortunate to not have someone pull out in front of me. Icey roads may be a good case for ABS brakes because they aren't suppose to lock up if they are working properly. If I can't drive on the side of the road where the ice isn't glazed then I stay OFF them!!!! I refuse to go down a hill when the entire road is glazed since even a stopped car will slide down the hill. I have seen too many of them do it (from the engine vibration or the force of the wind). I did a VERY DUMB thing one time---I got between my Mercedes and another car sliding (from a stopped position) towards my car. Fortunately, it was moving slowly and I was able to push or slide the vehicle away and on down the road!!!!! But, my action was VERY STUPID!!!!
My wife (as a passenger) was involved in a head-on collision Friday. The ABS brakes didn't stop either car and none of the tires showed skid marks!!!!! It is possible that non-ABS brakes would have stopped both cars and avoided a collision. Another case of my being scared of ABS brakes in non-winter conditions. Has anyone ever tried a test over a marked area to see the difference? Or have you heard the percentage difference?
