Default Ac stalled car

I'm guessing the compressor is starting to go out.

Some days it likes to cool others the compressor clicks on and off. When it's doing this, it's like it's putting a large load on the engine. Actually stalled my engine when I was backing up for the first time.

I would probably unplug the compressor and see if the compressor is getting 12V when the engine is running and the a/c is turned on inside the car.

Does the light for the a/c turn off when the the a/c compressor turns off? Do both fans continue to run when the a/c compressor turns on and off?
