Accord Electrical problem
1998 honda accord sedan V6
Last week got sporatic problem where every indicator light would come on (doors brake sbs abs etc) and would then go off when I stopped.
Went away for a few days after I put a volt meter on the cigarett lighter. Yesterday when it came back voltage spiked to about 18V at high RPMs. All the indicator lights would go on at about 14V. At full stop and idle the voltage would drop to normal and the indicator lights would go off.
Today, I just had a constant battery light and 11.5V.
Tonight, half a mile from home voltage started dropping steadily. 2 blocks from home, voltage was down to about 8V and the transmission stopped working. Coasted to a dead stop at my house with the engine fine, but the transmission dead.
1. I would guess it's an alternator / regulator problem.
2. Will low volts kill the transmission?
3. Are there any other possible causes?
4. Has anyone had any luck jumpering voltage to the radio when disconnecting power as to aviod paying the dealer to reset it?

As far as the radio goes: What are you talking about? Why would you have to paythe dealer to reset it? I'm confused. If you are referring to the security code you have to type in, you should be able to get that for free. If you don't have the code, take your car to a Honda dealer and ask them to get it for you. Write it down and save it in a safe place.
