Default Accord Engine Damper

I have a 99 Accord that had a damper fail. Belts came off, immediately pulled off road. mechnanic says that I need timing done and new timing belt. do I really need timing work?

Do you mean the crankshaft pulley/Harmonic Balancer failed? How? pulley separated from rubber bushing?

If crankshaft bolt remained in place and timing belt covers are intact, no harm to timing belt should have occurred.

You can install a new harmonic balancer/pulley and align crankshaft and camshaft timing marks manually to check proper engine timing. If Ok, I would not replace timing belts, ...unless they are due soon (< 10K miles) anyway.

good luck
