It can't hurt, but if you heat it will burn and smoke.

A decent set of deep impact sockets can be obtained from Harbor Freight for very reasonable price.

Not sure if you need the whole set, compare the price of just the 19mm impact to the set...the mounts should come off without needing impact sockets. On the last 3rd gen (no holder for the crank), I had to go to a local shop and get "the guy" to hit it with his impact/compressor to get it loose...I asked how much and he told me not to worry (I buy my tires there) but I slipped him $10 anyway.

Peronally I use Gates products. They offer two kits TCK and TCKWP, the TCK is just the belts and tensioner(s) and the TCKWP comes with a water pump. Up until recently I was not sure where or who made the pump in their kit so I just used the TCK and got the pump from another source, after a recent meeting with them I now know "where it comes from" and will get the TCKWP for the next adventure on one of the Honda's...looks like that will be the '07....oh joy a V6, TX might be hitting you up for advise (your MDX adventure)....and don't forget the seals.

 

I cant say thanks enough. Resources have been stretched thin these days so I have returned to DIY for any auto repair. This weekend I have brakes lined up for my girls car and tie rod ends for my old van. In about 4 weeks ( aka 2 pay checks) I will give the timing belt and seals a go. Does anyone know of a resource for the tool to install the seals. It looks like a screw and bolt with an external plastic plug that pushes the seal into place properly. I think I will need it for the Cam Seal.

When you go to do the timing belt, do the crank bolt first.

 

Most folks manage to install seals w/ homemade press rigs. Board and pry bar, PVC fittings/pipe, etc.

I suggest inspecting the seals and not replacing unless they show signs of leakage or weeping oil. They are not a maintenance item, and you might create a leak where none presently exists.

Sadly my seals leak.. I also have a leaking oil pan gasket according to the dealer. My hope is after all this the oil leaks cease to be a problem.

 

Again, if you are not sure, call around for a place that rents a seal installer tool/set...most of those place refund the full amount once you bring it back.
