Am I being ripped off?
Hello Forum,
In my previous thread, I had pointed out that I had recently purchased a 08 EX-L Coupe V6. I have recently visited the dealership to have a remote entry key made. And while I was there, they did a full diagnosis on the car to spot any maintenance that might be required.
I had bought the car knowing that it needs Brakes and one rear tire. However, since it's at 62k miles. The service feller recommended that I do my 60k Maintenance. However he is asking for $360 alone. For the brakes, he's charging me $160. That's $500+ on one visit... Isn't that a bit much? Can anyone elaborate on what that entails?
I scheduled an appointment this Saturday to only do my brakes as I wanted to get more information as to why the 60k was so pricey. But I wanted to ask the majority here. How do you guys maintain these new cars without getting ripped off? The cars aren't as simple as they used to be back in the 90's. There are gazillions of sensors now, it's just not as simple.
I'm afraid to take the car to a local repair shop because I don't want to risk idiots ruining the car. Would kindly appreciate some guidance here as far as maintaining the car and proper repair costs.
Much appreciated as always.

Your car has a Maintenance Minder; so, technically, there is no 60K service.
Do you have receipts from the previous owner of what has been done previously on the car?
The maintenance is not much more difficult than older Accords. For some items, it actually has longer service intervals than older Accords.

They want $360 for a "60k service". Get an itemized list of exactly what they do for that service. Without that it's hard for us to decide whether it's a reasonable cost or whether the work is needed.
I definitely will not sign any service invoices unless I know exactly what's going in there, and how much labor they're charging me for it.
What I'm mostly interested in, is whether they will be flushing any of my liquids or not. Because I know a radiator and transmission flush can run up to $400 in just about any shop. If that's included in the 60k maintenance, then I'd probably be comfortable paying that amount. It's my fear that all they're going to do is rotate/re-alignment and an oil change.
When I go there this Saturday to get the brakes taken care of, I will get an itemized list for everything.
Thanks as always.

Suspension alignment makes sense, & can account for a good part of the money.
Honda automatic transmissions don't get along with "power flushing". That should be a drain & fill operation & pretty easy for you to do yourself (if you want). Being a Honda dealer, they probably know that, and "flush" is simply curious terminology.

My dealer charges 69$ for the trans drain and fill. The PS fluid service is 69$ as well.
I'll pay that because I know they are using the correct fluids, and I can have it done while I am at work.

I wish that's what they charged around here.. haha. But regardless, I'm not moving forward with any sort of maintenance before I get that itemized list.
Ahh when you said transmission "flush" I jumped to the conclusion it's an automatic.
Itemized list is the thing. Like others have said, it's not like 60k is super-special. Seems like 105k is special, so I wonder if they arrange it that way in order to advertize it doesn't need a "tune-up" for 100k miles.
