Default Another Timing Belt Q

2000 Honda Accord 4 cyl non-VTEC
Questions: Is it recommended to change the tensioner pulleys?
If you take out the adjuster nut do they just come out in your hands?
Are the little springs on the timing belt tensioner bracket the only resistance to tension the timing belt (and balancer belt)?

Thanks

Mixed recommendations about replacing those, not everyone does that.

The springs are for tensioning the belt when it's not running. You loosen the adjuster nut, let the springs take up the slack in the belt. Then tighten the adjuster nut to lock the pulleys into position.

Agreed,

I would reccomend removing the pulleys and then spraying brake clean inside them to remove any oil, gunk etc. *(use saftey glasses when doing this) The oil and gunk will get in there if you have a leaking valve cover or another leak in the timing belt area. If they spin freely after cleaning them then I would reuse them. If they are seized or require effort to spin then I would replace.

While you are in there I would reccomend replacing items such as the front main seal, oil pump seal, etc.
