Is the auto tranny in the V6 Ex cars REALLY that bad??
hey guys,I just purchaced a EX coupe with an auto and a V6 engine. I got it from a friend and he gave me records of trans maintance as well as oil changes. well ,I bought this car because I know hondas are known for relability but then I read the reviews only to find out the trannys aren't any good in these cars. are they REALLY that bad? or the people writing the reviews NOT take care of theirs you think?? i'm a little worried now, although the car runs out good i'm afraid it's gonna happen at anytime now. the car has 265K on it but don't look/run like it.

Yeah, they're weak. But on a "fix-it' board like this, we only hear about the problems. People don't usually post just to say "my tranny is still working fine". There's millions of em that aren't broke.

thats the kind of reassurance I needed to hear LOL! i guess it's done good since it's been taken care of.thanks

FWIW, I recently bought a 2001 EX-L V6 to use as a third car for our daughter to get to and from school in; I figure that since the rest of the car is sound, putting a tranny in some time in the next few years won't be much of an issue. I've found any number of places which remanufacture these 4-Speed units for less than a thousand dollars.

Keep the trans healthy by changing the ATF regularly. Only drain-&-fill; Honda autos really don't get along with "power-flush" machines. Use Honda ATF, there's stories about poor shifting when using Dexron. Look at the drain plug magnet, clean it off, but don't freak about magnetic "mud". If the stuff draining out is very dirty, then change it again after 20 or 100 miles. Eventually you want to reach a mileage interval for changing ATF where it never gets dirty.

Your right that is alot of miles and anything can happen BUT on the other hand i'm reading post on here about the NEW accords having issues so NO your not bursting my bubble.I understand things can happen to a car with 5 miles as well as one with 5000,0000000000 miles thanks for the heads up though.
