brake lamp failure sensor on 1997 honda accord ex station wagon
Hi to everyone. The "brake lamp failure" light on the dash stays lit even though the brake lights are fine, the high mount brake light is fine as well. The light were replaced with the proper ones per the honda service manual (proper wattage candle power). I checked the rear tailight, right and left housing (behind the access panel) for the sensor but nothing is there. According to the 1994-1997 honda service manual this is where the sensor is supposed to be. Judging from other posts on this topic, im guessing that the voltage on the white/green wire is not draining to ground. But first i have to find this elusive component. Any information, advice as to where it is located and ideas to turn it off would be appreciated. I suspect it may be under the dash somewhere? Thanks to all.

Check your brake fluid level. There is a float in the brake master cylinder reservoir that can trigger a brake light warning on the dash. I just can't remember which light it triggers (e-brake or brake lamp).

The brake lamp failure sensor is on the left/drivers side - ps it does not "monitor" the 3rd/high mount light.
Have you replaced the bulbs just for grins - they are pretty cheap. Also be sure to turn on the headlights when dark"ish" and be sure the running lights are working. Also check the condition of the bulb sockets for any rust and that....
