Default Brake Problems

My 91 Accord EX - 118K - is having a braking problem. Basically when the brakes are applied they will grab as normal but after applying for a longer stop they will soften and the pedal will go almost to the floor with very little braking power. This seems to be worse in hotter weather while driving in town. The brakes were re-done (pads, etc about 15K ago) Any ideas what could be the problem and if so what kind of $$ to fix? Appreciate any feedback as it is getting worse.

Most probably your Master cylender needs to be replaced. Make sure to buy Honda Master cylender. After market part will feel different as far as the pressure is concerned.

Well what are you comfortable with as far as mechanical projects go? If you've only changed oil you'll probably have the skills you need, you just may be challenged a bit.

In any case, get a repair manual (I keep the hanyes one in my car so I always have it. It has a special place in the trunk) and if you feel like you can do the job, go for it. It's not a big job, but these are your brakes, so you must take plenty of care and remember to do all the little things (bleed the brakes, etc.)

haven't priced the parts but I would say you won't break $200
