thanks Jim,

yes I forgot to add earlier on that I did put some grease on the back of the pads too, only a bit.

I managed to spin the back wheels whilst off the ground and they were spinning (ish) they should roll should they?

will try your method tomorrow and see how it feels.

It's normal for the pads to lightly brush the rotors, just enough to make a rubbing sound. There's no springs or anything pushing them away. Spin the tire by hand, it should coast a few revolutions but not forever like a bicycle wheel.
