Default New car shopping!! RE: Broken wheel stud!!! 2000 accord

Well, went to look at the new Accords, 4cyl. this time. Found one the wife was happy with. Sticker ~22,000. I believe they call it the LX version. Sat down with the salesperson to run some numbers and did I get a shock. Dealer only wanted to give me $4000 for my 2000 LX v6 with 90,000 miles. I walked! I thought Hondas were supposed to hold their value. Apparently, even the dealer knows these v6 autos are ng. I'm off to the Chevy dealer; or maybe even a Hyundai... ;->

ive done it on a few cars, since i work at town fair tire, we get cars in alot, and the studs break, if its a disk break, there may be metal lock washer type thingy, probly 2, break those off(u really dont even need them, then remove the caliper, and slowly yet carefully hit the hub area(NOT THE BRAKE) with a hammer, it should eventually break lose, and fall off, on the back od wich the studs are mounted, there ya go, thats how i do it with disk breaks where i work, hope that helped, i didnt really read any of the other posts, so this may have already been said

I was just looking at a parts blowup of the 2000 accord knuckle.

How does the hub/bearing attached to the knuckle?

Tippman, thanks for the offer and advice. I think I'm going to leave this job to the pros; or, get rid of the car before the tranny goes south (again).
Pahonda, as far as I know the hub, bearing, and knuckle are a press fit which is secured with the axle nut. I've been told and it seems likely that pulling them apart destroys the bearing. Then, you have to replace the bearing and once you get it all back together the front end needs aligned. :-( $$$$

PA, look at the front brake parts-picture. Bearing cartridge is held in the knuckle with a big snap ring. Then the hub is held in by the big nut on the end of the axle. That big nut also provides the preload for the bearings. Thats why its bad to roll the car around without axles installed.
