Smile Bulb that illuminates the shift lever panel on the console is out

I just noticed the light that illuminates the center console is out.

I'm trying to find some information on how to remove the center console. I downloaded the 1996 service manual, but can't find a thing on this topic.

If anybody knows where I can get a schematic, or anything else that will help, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

Robert

To remove the center console, there are two screws under a panel in the compartment of the center console. There are also 2 or 3 screws under the cup holder.

The shop manual should have a diagram. Look for instructions on how to replace the gear position switch and it should reference the page on how to remove the console.

Is the "shop manual" the same as the "Service Manual"? I downloaded the pdf of the shop manual, and couldn't find a listing for the gear position switch.

Also, when you say "under the cup holder" how do I get at this?

Thanks for your help,

Robert

The cup holder pulls out. The console comes out in two sections. Some of the rear section screws you have to move the front seats to get at. I think forward.

Lightbulb How do I get a the bulb?

I was able to remove the rear part of the center console, i.e. the piece with the cup holder and the compartment with the "trap door."

Part 2:

How do I remove the front part of the console?

Is the bulb underneath the shift lever? If yes, how do I get at it?

Thanks in advance,

Robert

The shop and service manual should be the same thing. The 94 shop manual can be download from the link I posted in the Online Manuals thread in the DIY section. The directions for the console removal is under Body, then front console replacement (20-73).

I'll post the bulb replacement when I find it.

The A/t Gear position switch is under electrical (page 23-169). The parts diagram for your accord was under chassis, then select lever. The bulb is #1, I think. You should be able to get to is from the driver's side once the center console is removed.

Question Bulb Replacement - Labor Required

It appears the dashboard lower console and glovebox need to be removed. I'm not sure what a "KE Model" is, so I'm not sure if the radio and pocket also need to be removed.

Question - if I were to take the car to a Honda dealer for this repair, what am I looking at $ wise?

On another issue, the owner's manual recommends the car be taken to a Honda dealer after 10 years, so the air bags can be inspected. What should this service cost, and what exactly do they inspect?

Thanks for the diagrams and page references.
