buying advice needed please
Hi there.I am brand new to this forum and am seeking advice on purchasing a Honda Accord.I have £5000-£6000 to spend and was wondering what model to buy.I would also like some info on servicing costs.I currently run a 3 series and am finding servicing and repair bills ridiculous as I do prefer to use main dealers.Ive done a bit of digging out info and the Accords seem to be super reliable although I would still like some what to look for advice when buying please.I would prefer the post 2003 model if possible.Any thoughts?

Hi Paul,
I'm hardly an expert but I live in the UK and I recently bought a Honda Accord SE Executive Auto 2002 and I'm super pleased with it.
I too have had expensive cars, previous to the Honda I had my all time favourite car the Mercedes 280e (1982 W123 model) - arguably the most successful MB ever produced.
But the servicing was hideous (allow about £1500 per year).
What I love about my Honda is that it is soooo
And is it really that much 'worse' than the 2001 Mercedes c220 cdi I used to own ?? I'm not so sure. It has everything I need and not too many buttons (which I found confusing on the c-class).
I'm totally satisfied with my car - it's now something I don't park and worry about (unlike the Mercs I used to own).
I hear though that you want a 2003 or earlier model. I don't know, I prefer mine actually (the interiors of the newer Hondas are a little too 'amusement arcade-ish' for my liking.
P.S. My 2002 Exec came with 47k miles and cost £2100 - I think I got a very good deal.
P.P.S. Make sure that things like cambelts have already been done at the due Service intervals otherwise you'll be paying for it to be changed yourself.

2003 & newer 4-cylinder engine have cam chain - not belt. So avoiding the large cost of a cam belt at 90k miles.
Honda automatic trans in the 1998-2002 range have been a bit fragile. But I hear manual trans is far more common in UK. Honda manual trans seem to be bulletproof.
I have heard of some 2003 engines have some problem with cam-chain tensioner, allowing oil to dissapear leading to destroyed engine. Someone on here had that problem, maybe he'll fill in the details. So WHATEVER kind of car you get, always regularly check oil level on the dipstick.
