I have a '96 that I just bought, a/c blows warm, figured it needed a charge & hooked up a can to low side- no suction at all, jumped pressure switch & fans came on but compressor does not seem to be engaging. I've checked the fuses under the hood and dash- both good. How can I tell if i've got a bad comp?

 

Use a pressure tester to see if there is any leaks in it

 

first of all - have you read my post about the trick for 94-97 A/C cooling??

second why did you jump the pressure switch? thats not exactly how you test the compressor -

I read your post about the cable, but that works fine. The problem is that the comp does not engage at all. There is refrigerant in the system still, but I can't get an accurate reading without the comp engaged. I jumped the pressure switch in an attempt to get the comp going to accept a charge. That has worked beautifully on every other vehicle I've tried it on but not this time.

If you can tell me how to test it I'd appreciate it.

by the problem you describe it sounds like you need new compressor ... I have to double check something give me some time
