Default Can I keep my 4cyl brake calipers?

I'm doing the five lug swap on my car in order to fit 2010 accord wheels on. I'm doing the front first. I have calipers on the front, so all I needed to do was swap knuckles (which I have), calipers (which I have), and obviously rotors. I also opted for changing the outer tie rod ends while I'm at it.

I haven't started on the front end swap out yet because I've still got to go over to a friend's house and use his press to put in lower ball joints on the new knuckles, but I went ahead and put the v6 calipers on my car the other day to get that part out of the way. (I got them from a junkyard, but I was fairly certain they would be fine). Well they weren't. I bled the system way more than necessary and there was definitely no air in the system, but I had no brakes still. I put the 4cyl calipers back on and bled a few times and my braking power returned back to (or better than) normal. So I started thinking, obviously the 4cyl calipers will bolt to the v6 knuckle, so why do I even need to switch the calipers out?

The only reason I can think of, is if the V6 rotors are a larger diameter.

The v6 rotors might be a little bit larger, I'm not entirely sure. But probably not by a lot because the v6 calipers physically fit onto my 4cyl rotors just as well as the 4 cyl ones did. The caliper piston and the pads are a tad bigger, but that's about it.

If the piston is larger, that will affect front/rear brake balance. Bigger pistons = more clamping force in front. Probably because of more weight in the front of the car. I'd say the 4-cyl calipers are OK temporary until you find V6 calipers.

Yeah that's what I thought. The v6 is heavier and therefore requires more force to slow it down. But since mine is a 4cyl and will stay a 4cyl I probably wont need the larger calipers.

And as far as I know the rears are the same on the 4cyl and the v6. Or so I've read.

Oh that's right, I wasn't thinking about your car still being 4-cyl... (Where's that hammer-head smiley?)

Since your car is a 4-cylinder, you will be fine. Personally though, since you have everything apart, you might as well upgrade the brakes.
