Changing Timing belt issues.
I have a 2001 Honda Accord v6 with 30,500 miles. Because of time not mileage the owners manual recommends certain adjustments / replacements. Should I replace the timing belt, I am driving south in August (1800 miles round trip), and I don't want any problems, but I am driving to save money also. What do the Honda experts recommend I do change...ie (Filters, trans oil, is there a differential on the honda?, etc), and please advise things you think I should definetly change. Note the car is in mint condition, garage kept, low milage as my wife works 10 min from our house (I am the original owner).
double over heads are a little trickier than single . you need to re-due the timing and make sure the cams and crack are lined up. for the balance belt remove the access nut behind the rear ballance gear. get a 4 inch bolt and mark it at 3 inches when it drops in put the belt on and tension it . remove the bolt. If you crank the engine over one turn and check your timing marks. they should line up but your balance belt wont . that's because the rear gear has another gear that is ratio-ed at 3 to one (three revolutions and every thing is aligned) double check every thing. that is one good looking engine keep it that way. if you have any doubt get a good manual.
