Unhappy Check Engine Light (CEL) but no codes???

I have a 2001 Accord Coupe 2.3 Auto EX the other day the check engine light came on, not the service engine light for oil changes. Well, before I could investigate it quit running which was found to be the fuel pump. It now has a new fuel pump and the shop tried to clear the light. It clears and then upon start up it re-appears yet there are no codes on the scanner to clear only the light. I have notice that it doesn't idle very smooth but this has been that way for quite some time (it doesn't surge or rev up on a slight sputtering when put in gear or turning on the a/c). This has really got me wondering as I have even pulled the fuse and reinstalled it like the shop manual shows and have even disconnected the battery and still it just pops right back up. This have really got me stumped. Thanks.

Start it up, let the CEL/MIL come on, plug in the code reader and what does it say?

When I hook up the code reader it shows one code but when you try to view it the reader says "No DTC". So then I clear the light and it goes off. Then just a few seconds later the light comes back on.

Suggest swapping to another key and see if problem is resolved. A bad key or immobilizer problem is likely. See attachment.

good luck

I used a different key but so far nothing has changed. I'm thinking about checking the fuel pressure regulator as it was just before the fuel pump went out that the light came on (possibly a fuel pressure problem??). It's just a guess at this point.

If engine is no-start (unclear from your posts), then suggest a test to determine whether fuel or spark is missing.

Attempt to start w/ starter fluid or throttle body cleaner (5-10 sec spray) into air intake.

If car starts briefly, then fuel delivery is problem; main fuel relay, fuel pump, or injectors, or immobilizer circuit/module.

If car does not start, ignition spark is not available; bad ignitor, ignition keyswitch, or possibly ECM problem.

good luck

The car starts and runs relatively fine. I drive it 40 miles a day to work it just has a little rough idle after it is warmed up and that stupid service engine light. If it wasn't for the light I would barely know anything was wrong.

Suggest going to Autozone, or other parts stores and getting codes read. You may have a problem w/ your code reader.

good luck
