Default Check Fuel Cap

Spoiler

Hey guys,

2010 Honda Accord EXL V6

i have had a “check fuel cap” issue for the better part of the last year and a half or so. I have ran a fuel cleaner, I have replaced the gas cap, and other minor things. No fix. This message was never accompanied by a CEL light. I took it to Honda twice to get diagnosed and they gave me about $3000 worth of parts and labor that would possibly fix my issue, just so they wouldn’t charge me for a diagnosis and come back with nothing, this weekend I got a CEL. I got p0497 & P145c. I went to HondaPartsNow, saw the purge valve was $109 or so, called Honda, they wanted $190. They lowered it to $150. I called another dealership who price matched the exact amount. Replaced the purge valve in 10 mins and the CEL as well as the check fuel cap message has since gone away, and it has been over two weeks.

I hope you got your money back from the dealership. If not get it back.

Question Sometimes a simple fix

07 accord sedan 216k; bought with 15k(2nd owner) I try to take care of autos. "Check fuel cap" came on 2 weeks ago, at every start up since(no check engine light), replaced fuel o-ring, then cap, cleaned throttle body, replaced air filter, cleaned purge solenoid, inspected charcoal canister and lines. No help . Talking with a neighbor, said his 2015 f-150 had same problem last month, and was told to put some wd40 in gas tank, he did and said message was gone next day. I put some marvel mystery oil(6 ounces) in my gas tank and drove 6.5 miles to store. The very next start up the message was gone and has been gone for 2 days .(just thought I would share, I don't understand how this is a fix just thankful!)
