Default Check gas cap lamp

Have a 05 Accord 4 cyl auto. Lost the gas cap a while back so bought a new one. Now the check gas cap light is on. No CEL light but the other is on. Replaced the cap with another new one and the light is still on. Any thought as to what to do???

Unless you have a scan tool, you can't clear the code by pulling the battery cables. But the error will clear after some certain set of conditions has been met. Look at the thread linked below under "EVAP system".

When you say "clear the code" I'm assuming the CEL has come on. In this case the CEL hasn't come on so I don't know what other parts of the system would cause the problem. The gas cap should be fine as it's new as was the one on when the problem started.

I would like to say, Check Gas Cap light that comes on every time I fuel. I've tried being very careful even to the extent of letting it nozzle sit for a minute before taking it out. I read an old thread about a similar problem that indicated it could be either the cap gasket or the sensor. Has anyone had a more recent experience with this? And if so what was the result at the dealer? I'm guessing this will be hard to replicate at the dealer unless I can get the SA to take a trip down to the local station. It's not a huge issue as it does cycle through and go out, but there's obviously something malfunctioning.

Sincerely and best regards

Are you in the habit of topping-off the tank, keep adding fuel until it almost pours out? That will do a couple things... Confuse the fuel-tank pressure-sensor and possibly saturate the EVAP canister.

In my case it did happen just after fueling. Not a full tank as not enough $$$ at the time so only about half. Still came on.
