Clacking when braking

RE: Clacking when braking
I'm thinking brakes, since CV joints would click when you turn, regardless of whether you're applying thebrakes.
If the brake pads are sorta loose in the caliper bracket, they can click against the structure that holds them. That's not really a problem, once you convince yourself that's really the cause of the noise.
Maybe a loose ball joint? They're under very different forces when you apply the brakes.
Can you make it happen at walking speed in a parking lot? Try to narrow down the location. Right vs. left side? Way out by the hub or inboard? Maybe if it's farther forward, it might bea looseradius rod?

RE: Clacking when braking
I just replaced the front pads (1 month ago), so it could very well be the brakes. The noise is noticable only at walking speeds but again only when braking. The ride has been a lot bumpier than usual lately aswell, so it might be in the suspension. I have 230,000 km on my car and the suspension has never been touched.

With 230k km, it could be a LOT of different things.
Blown shocks?
Loose top-mount of shock?
Loose ball joints (upper, lower, and tie-rod)?
Looseinboard-pivots for upper control arm?
Loose radius rod (bar going forward from lower contol arm)?
Any suspension bushing(s)?
Subframe?

RE: Clacking when braking
Ok, I stripped the brakes on Monday and found a piece of rust that had made its way in between my pad and the rotor. I removed it, scraped the rotor edges down and put it back together. Result, no clacking for two days. Today back to clacking. I'm wondering if having it on the hoist may have temporarily fixed the real problem or whether there is more rust to be found.
