Default Coolant Refill - Genuine Honda Coolant?

I need to top off the coolant in my car (I think I have a small leak somewhere, but at least at this point as long as it stays small it's not worth fixing as I'm not sure how much longer the car will last anyway). It's a 2004 V6 Accord.

Is it important that I get the genuine Honda coolant -
Amazon Amazon
- or can I just get some generic coolant from the auto parts store?

You can use generic non-silicate coolant; however, imho, Honda coolant is still better for protection against corrosion and seal leaks.

The price on that Amazon link for the genuine Honda Type II coolant is above Honda list price. Your local dealership may sell it for less. Also check the dealership's website for parts coupons.

Btw: It is normal for the coolant level in the reservoir to drop some over time, which does not necessarily mean any sort of leak.

I compared the chemical composition of the Honda coolant versus the Zerex Asian Vehicle Formula and they are a virtual match. I don't normally advise non-OEM stuff like coolant and ATF, but in the case of Hondas and coolant, the Zerex Asian is certainly an option and it's $5.35 per gallon cheaper.
