Crankshaft pulley bolt

Thanks Tony,...not tryin' to get the last word in here, but I found an about.com forum question from 2003. The guy had a '90 HondaAccord and did $2000 dollars worth of work on it, (same job you just walked me through), and his AC compressor was screamin' like mine and he wanted to know how much trouble replacing the compressor clutch would be,(sound familiar?). Most of the responses said,.."You'd besurprised how tight those belts are supposed to be." The last guy to respond said to spray the compressor,(with theengine off), with brake cleaner and use a sticky belt dressing on the belt and pulleys.

I tried this first and it worked! Not only is it responsive but it finally quit screamin' when I run the AC. The guy said it had worked for him for a hundred thousand miles. He also said don't use too much belt dressing because the engine won't start. Found that a little hard to believe but, so long as it works, I'm a happy camper. i used a 1/2 drive socket, breaker bar, a piece of aluminum angle iron, and my 4' cheater bar. i pulled the starter and wedged the aluminum angle iron into the flywheel teeth, placed tranny into neutral to avoid loading the gears. btw, the socket is raised in the middle of the hex pattern so it doesn't round your bolt. broke it free in a heatbeat. never had much luck with impact drivers, so i don't bother.

I had the same issue I just shoved a socket off a socket wrench into whatever was spinning when we tried to loosen the bolt not the smartest but we made sure it was durable and didnt break or bend anything(sorry about not knowing much only 17 my uncle was helping me)

After screwing around with torches and impact guns, I just ordered the stupid tool on ebay for $30. In this video at 2:00 you'll see the setup to loosen it.

This is what I did and it was a cinch. No need for expensive impacts or torches.

Ive got a 1998 Accord 4cyl, it has the same problem. On my 02 maxima I took a breaker bar and lodged it on the concrete floor while the socket was on the bolt really good, then I turned the key over.. worked like a charm. Has anyone tried this trick on a Honda harmonic balancer before?

Don't try bumping the starter to get the bolt off of any F series engine. Since they run counterclockwise, doing so will tighten and most likely break the bolt or worse.
