Default detach accel. cable from gas pedal 95

I purchased an acceleration cable that I'm guessing was defective cause it snapped the same day(pain in the neck). The car is a 95 ex, I dont know if it was just because I couldnt see too well but I couldn't get the cable detached from the gas pedal, my car is stuck in a parking lot so I was going to try getting a replacement cable and putting it on in the lot myself.

Also are there any other reasons why it would have snapped? the rubber around it melted and there was a cut in the section under it. Bad cable?

Help?

I looked in the service manual, didn't see anything on the pedal end-could be I missed it. By the pic it looks like it "slips" out.

This burn/cut in the new cable-about where is this?
