Default Diagnose my 2007 clutch issue!

Hey all,

My 2007 4cyl manual is currently (safely) disabled outside my home. A friend with some mechanical knowledge said it seems like the clutch slave cylinder might have blown, but before I pay to get it towed and then pay to have it opened up I wanted some advice based on the symptoms. The issue essentially developed overnight...my check engine light came on Tuesday night and I was unable to get the engine to go beyond 3000 rpms (and after hitting that speed the gas pedal became unresponsive until I shifted into neutral and back into gear). In the morning the engine light was still on, but the car drove fine on my highway commute (I hit 3000 rpms/ 75ish MPH for most of the ride). During lunchtime I had some minor difficulty shifting into 5th gear....some minor grinding if I didnt use extra force to shift the gear. On the ride home, in 40 miles stop and go traffic, getting into 1st and 2nd gear was a pain so I drove immediately to my local Honda (of course the engine light went off RIGHT BEFORE I got into the dealers lot). After being told they couldn't rape me of $110 until the next day, I tried to leave but couldn't get the car to go into reverse (3 tries finally made it happen). I chugged home but every stop took extreme effort to get the shifter into any gear.

The clutch pedal sounds a bit funny but there is still plenty of resistance and after pushing down it returns to its normal height. With the car off, the shifter **** smoothly glides into any gear. The car has 167k miles of heavy highway traffic (DC Area traffic has definitely not been kind to my car) so I don't want to spend a significant chunk of money to then find out that I need to spend even more money to replace the entire clutch assembly. My understanding is that a slave cylinder is a fairly cheap repair.

Any thoughts?

Have your friend w/ mechanical knowledge observe the slave cylinder movement when you press/release the clutch. It should move 1-2 inches when clutch is depressed. If only very small or no movement, the slave or master cylinder may have a problem.

Other problems need codes to guide any diagnosis. Don't wait as more problems can result from delay.

good luck
