Looking around the internet at JDM suppliers, it appears a complete w/o accy's F22B2 can be had for $500 and under, + a couple hundred for S/H to my zip.

Could you provide your opinion on using one of these. This really appears to have potential and appears quite promising to me, especially in view of the fact a camshaft with tappets alone is over that amount.
~What should we be aware of when considering a supplier of these?~

I was also surprised to see whole vtec engine/trans/ECU conversion assy's mounted in their cradle for under $1k. They even had the exh pipe to the converter, air cleaners, axles and CVs, alts and p/s pumps.
One of these units would nearly renew a car.

the f22 sounds like a decent deal, i would check out craigslist or a junkyard first to avoid having to pay shipping. I know I sold my f22 for $300 or something like that.

H22 is the way to go if you want power.

They all say their engines are under 35k or 45k miles and its all wrong. A company called Tiger something or other imports JDM engines and are fairly reputable, albeit you don't really know how many miles are on the engine. The fact is, the F22B2 was a USDM engine, not JDM, so that's an outright lie to you. You can find the same engine minus the shipping at junkyards within 100 miles of you for the same price. Car-part.com is an excelent junkyard search engine.

OK, I'm getting it. I knew it sounded too good to be true. Just wish there were an alternative to spending all the money and time down while I overhaul this engine.
Thanks to all who provided assistance. Tom S. in Tn.
