engine noise, AC system?

You might try disabling the accessory belts sequentially to see if noise is coming from PS, Alt, or AC rotation. You can run like this for long enough to diagnose.

Would a timing belt make perfectly timed, intermittent noise? How could I disable the accessory belts? Pull fuses?

All right! I got it fixed. It was the ABS modulator. I disconnected the ABS control unit in the truck and now no noise. Sweet easy fix and don't need ABS anyway.
