Hi I'm doing this post for a friend who doesn't have internet access.
He has a 1985 Honda accord 4 door.
Problem: Car starts and after about 5 miles driving the car looses power and quits. After waitingabout 10 - 15 minutes it will start and run normal then the cycle starts over again.
The one thing he did was to have the cat converter taken out as he was told by someone that was the prob but so far the car still has the ongoing problem.
Any help, suggestions, tech tips, please.

when car dies and won't restart you need to chk if it is getting spark and or fuel ,,,,.. if no spark chk the rotor i have seena bunch of them go bad especially non-honda rotors
also what i have seen a few times is what is called carburator icing,, but only if you reside in cold climates,, if you do, chk to make sure that the cold/hot air diaphram door on the air cleaner is working properly and that the door is on the up position thus letting warm air into the carb

 

I am having the similar troubles with my carb'ed 85 Accord, too, butmine will fire right up after about 5 minutes and run like a top. This is my only rig and I would sure like to keep it if I can. Where is the cold/hot air door?

Welcome to the forum! Check your cap/rotor first (as mentioned).... does it die when you're driving down the road then just take a while to restart or is it doing something different?

 

Thanks for the welcome, this looks awesome.I don't see anything cracked/broken withthe cap/rotor but I will replace 'em this weekendanyway.Yep, I gradually lose power gradually, over about 15 minutes of hwy driving. But by the time I come out of Napa, the car is ready to rock.
