Question Engine Swap Cost?

My friend has a 91 accord with the F22A1 eninge. his timing belt broke the other day and we were wondering how much the labor for an engine swap would be, we can get a used engine for $500 plus he is going to get a rebuild kit for the used one as like preventative maintenance. because the timing belt broke, he bent a few valves to, so this is cheaper to do. so my question is the LABOR price to put this rebuild kit in and throw the new engine in, plus a clutch. like i said labor only.

This is a hard one for most of us....as labor is us....so what you are asking to me is one long weekend or I could spread it over two. I'm getting old and have to take lots of breaks.

Anyway, back on topic. I'll guess the "book labor" is around 10 hours, too tired to look it up, for an engine change. If you add another ~5 or so for the t-belt, balance shaft belt and water pump, ect. You have around 15 hours of labor "by the book". So take that times the labor rate (50~100 hour)...and there you are.

Best to call around and get some quotes on the job. Just me but I'd price a head replacement/head rebuild as well.

Then the decision is yours....or your friends.

I would expect a shop to charge somewhere in the $600-1000 range.
