enigine management light

no codes show up on the dash at all thats why am a bit stumpped

2.0 litre SE, TYPE R, V-TEC UK MODEL. REG W735 RGF OR 1999 MODEL

The codes would come from either a code reader, should begin with a P and four digits (P0420). Or some have jumped the pins in the connector and count the flashes from the CEL or EML light.

Most places in USA there's car-part stores that will plug in a reader and tell you the error codes that are stored. Do they do that over there?

would too much oil in engine cause the CEL to come on ?

Not sure, but it might. If it was very much overfilled, it might splash around & get more oil through the crankcase vent. That might give you something related to A/F ratio or maybe catalyst efficiency.

I think a couple mm high on the dipstick wouldn't be enough to do that.
