exhaust shield inquiry
I'm gonna be replacing the exhaust from the cat back on my '92 Accord. I've already got the replacement resonator (or mid-pipe) section as well as the muffler but just don't have them installed yet. I never thought about also obtaining a new replacement heat shield for the mid-pipe, figuring I could probably just re-use the old one fine if I really wanted to re-install that. But I'm finding it rather a major hassle to try to remove the old heat shield from the old mid-pipe. It's clamped on with several strap-like clamps around the pipe with 10-mm nuts, rusty of course. I seem to be able to manage to get the regular nuts off but one of them happens to be a different “acorn” style nut for some odd reason and despite penetrating oil and torch it won't come off. I'd have take the trouble to cut that particular nut/bolt off if I really wanted to take that shield off and re-use it. How important/necessary is this exhaust heat shield on the mid-pipe anyway? Because it's highly likely I'm gonna go ahead and replace the mid-pipe without it, instead of fighting taking this off and then messing around trying to get it all clamped back on the new pipe. Here's a picture of the old business with the shield I'm talking about, top and bottom views.

What are you talking about poorman212? See, I've already forgotten about it. Well, whatever it is you were talking about anyway. Some heat shield or something maybe? I can't recall...
Thanks man. Good to hear. Rollin' on...

I do seem to vaguely recall some crazy post showing some blurry photos of a rust-ridden corroded exhaust pipe lying on the ground and the OP blathering on about some heat shield. If that helps.
