Default Tighten Crankshaft Pully Bolt.

I have a 92 accord with a 5 speed manual transmission. How do you tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt without the engine turning? According to the haynes manual the torque spec is 160 lbs and I want to tighten this to the right spec without just using an impact wrench and hoping its good enough.

Thanks,
CRW

There is a "holder socket" for the pulley. You will need that tool to be able to hold the pulley as you tighten the bolt.

W/ a manual trans you can place the engine in 1st gear, set the ebrake and/or get someone to hold footbrake while you tighten the crankshaft pulley w/ a torque wrench.

Note, most inexpensive torque wrenches can only be set to 150 ft-lbs maximum. For that reason I have always estimated the final torque (using lever arm length times estimated force) to set final torque.

good luck
