Default Exhaust smell coming inside car.

It seems that ever since I removed my muffler I have an exhaust smell coming into the car (Only when the windows are down). But I don't think removing the muffler would cause that smell while I am driving. Or would it? Any thoughts?

The only time I ever smelled exhaust near the front of the car as opposed to the tailpipe was when I had a rusted out hole in the exhaust near the cat. converter. But I knew this because there was a different exhaust sound like farting. Maybe you have a leak somewhere?

Concurrence on the leak. Not sure about the '94 but mine has a flex pipe and that was where the leak was on mine, same symptoms, smell exhaust in the car with windows down. I didn't hear anything noticeable. I put some SeaFoam in the intake, makes the smoke and sure ceough, it was leaking right at the flex pipe just before the cat. The cat/pipe connection had a small leak as well.

Its just weird that it started happening after I removed the muffler. I might pick up a can of SeaFoam to try that out.

I could very well be that when you took the muffler off, you rattled one of the connections or something loose.

When I found the flex pipe leak, I also found the joint before and after the CAT were both leaking too, so moving the muffler around might have knocked something loose.

It doesn't take much to get that exhaust smell in the car.
