Default Is extended warranty required?

Hello,

I am planning to buy a 2009 Honda Accord EX-L which has remainder of 3 yr manufacturer warranty. An extended warranty is offered by the dealer but at an extra price. In our opinion would accord need an extended warranty or regular maintenance resolve any issues. What would be a recommended approach.

Thank you.

Things can go wrong, I have not heard of any issues with these. If the cost vs additional services/coverage is worth it,,,then why not. You'll have to weigh the cost vs what you get.....

Make sure you get quotes on other extended warranties and shop around like you would any other product. Best choice would be Honda Care Extended Warranty (actually from American Honda). Any others (Fidelity Warranty Services, etc) you need to check them out and ask other people what experience they have had with them, especially mechanics!
And like poorman212 said, do a cost/benefit analysis on the purchase.

OK, just me, but I wouldn't consider buying an extended warranty unless it was issued/backed by the factory (Honda).

I believe extended warranties sold at most car dealerships are issued/backed by third parties, XYZ Car Warranty Co., not the car manufacturers.

Extended warranties are sold because they are money makers for the underwriters and the retailers. It just depends on how much piece of mind you want to purchase.

I have an 09 Honda Fit with 102k on it. It hasn't had one issue. I would have lost everything on an extended warranty.
