Gen 9 Intermittant Start
My 2017 Accord Sport I4 w/6 speed manual recently started to have intermittent starter operation.
A search of the internet indicated that a lot of people were having dealers replacing batteries and ignition switches with minimal success and great expense. Finally having the dealer replace the starter.
Like the others, I replaced my still good 8 year old OEM battery and still had the problem. Further searching found a YouTube video explaining that the solenoid in the starter had a bad design which resulted in the power contacts burning away resulting in a poor connection.
The fix is to replace the starter OR to replace just the plastic brush holder/solenoid contacts. A starter can cost from $150 to $400 where the brush holder assembly can be had at the dealer for about $60. The rebuild takes less than an hour and uses simple tools. There is at least one good YouTube video that shows how to do it.
What you need is: p/n 31210-5A2-A01 Holder Set, Brush https://www.ebay.com/itm/374949913471?
Hope his helps.
