I just bought a 2002 Accord V6 for a daily driver. My new job requires a 67 mile round trip each day and I didn't want to put that kind of mileage on my Vette. This Accord has 120k miles on it already, so I took it to the dealer to have it checked out first. They said it was in good condition relative to the mileage. They recommended new brake pads, transmission fluid change,and motor mounts. Ok, this seems to be expected. The one question that I really have is; they said the spark plugs had recently been changed, but not with Honda specific plugs. They recommended replacing themwith factory spec plugs. Is this really necessary?

Also, was is the recommended/best octane to put in the tank?

depends on the plugs.

as long as their not bosch and their gapped correctly there should be no reason to change them.

best octane is regular/87. your not going to see any performance/reliability gains from putting premium in unless there is something wrong with the engine (excessive carbon deposits, etc)

 

yea dont get bosch. ugh i put bosch in once. worst decision ever. go with denso or ngk.

as far as gas goes, i always put in plus(89). i cant do regular. dont be cheap, you can afford the extra 2 dollars lol

You are wasting your money and potentially damaging your engine (unless you have a 7th gen V6 or turbo). You car was designed to run on 87. 89 will give you worse performance, worse gas mileage, and cost more.

yea your engine will be fine running 89 but your not going to see ANY gains from it unless there is a problem with the engine.

if your really concerned, every once and awile run shell premium through it, not because of the octane, but shell (only shell) premium has fuel system cleaner additives. for my money, i would get the regualar and put some seafoam in the tank, but if you would rather pay the extra for premium with additives, go for it.
