Default Getting P1706 error code

I have a 1998 Honda Accord V6 coupe. My check engine light came on and after checking it, I had a p1706 error code. I believe this is a problem with the transmission range switch where the computer thinks that the switch is "open". Is this something I can check myself? Please advise. Thank you.

First thing is to unhook any aftermarket alarm or remote start;
Then go get your folder of Service News that your service manager has been handing out all these years;

Next thing is to check the range switch itself;
