So it'll start but then it dies? Any other characteristics about it? How does it die? Does it happen when you do anything (like shift into gear or turn the steering wheel)? Does it make any funny noises or does it sound like you simply turned off the key?

I am with Jim on this one(as I usually am), need more info on how it dies before we can make a proper diagnosis.

could it be the main relay be failing?
I have never heard of it failing in this way but I would think it is possible.

Also OP - this section you posted in is more for the engine and internal - like camshaft and piston kind of stuff. Your question belongs in GENERAL TECH - it will get more views and answers there.

Yeah, I'll move it to Gen.Tech.

I've always heard the main relay doesn't make a running car stall, but I never really understood why. Consequently I don't necessarily believe it...

on a side note it is so common for shops and backyard mechanics to throw in a fuel pump without even proper diagnostics.

I stopped by a neighbors house recently and commented that I noticed their super nice 6 gen coupe has been parked in the same spot for months.

The guy told me they couldn't drive it cause it wasn't reliable and couldn't be trusted to drive as sometimes it just will not start. He said when it wont start it is not getting fuel.

So first he got a pump from a junkyard and when it kept having the same problem he bought a new pump and still has the same problem. He said they were thinking about just selling it for real cheap just to get rid of it.

I asked him about the main relay which he had never heard of. He tried starting the car and it wouldnt start. I went under the dash and tapped the main relay and turned the key and it fired right up. He couldn't believe it. I told him to how to fix his with a solder iron (ala Eric the Car Guy Video that I watched) or buy a new one.

Think about how much money and time was wasted when the whole time it was just the Main Relay.

Is your car a LX, DX, or EX?

When the car stalls out, will the car start back up?

The original poster hasn't come back yet...

But anyway, what do the dashboard warning lights do when it dies? Go out completely? Check=engine light comes on then goes back out after 2 seconds? Or describe in gory detail what do thay do.
