Default Help! Check Engine Light & O2 Sensor

Hello -

I have a 2001 Honda Accord LX 4cyl VTEC ULEV(103k miles)- I got the light on and went to Autozone to read the code, it indicated primary o2 sensor was bad... I replaced with genuine Honda part and expected that the check engine light would go off automatically. Do I have to reset this or will it go off by itself after a few rides as it would if the gas cap were loose?

Thanks! James

You can reset the ecu and clear codes by disconnecting your battery for approx. 15 min or more to drain the capacitors inside of it. This can also be accomplished by removing the 7.5A backup fuse. I haven't tried the 2nd method, but you won't lose radio station presets. Let us know if you still have a CEL after.

For a USA1998-2002 Accord...

Go to the fusebox in the right end of the dashboard, near the door hinges. Pull fuse #13 (while the car is shut off).

Thank you all for replying, I pulled the backup fuse and waited 15 minutes. Now the light is off and hope that it remains off for some time to come. Those O2 sensors are not cheap!

Thanks! James
