the castle but came off the ball joint bolt and there’s no sign of there ever being a cotter pin. now the cv is popped out of the joint and the tire is sideways. i’m know the castle nut is unusable but not sure if the ball joint bolt is usable or the cv. i’m low on money and need a temp fix until i can afford new parts
What happened? Did the ball joint castle nut fall off while driving?
The threads on the ball joint will have to hold the castle nut. Look at the old parts to see if the old castle nut and/or the ball joint threads are damaged worn. Also, the ball joint should have zero play when bolted to the lower control arm. Look at some youtube videos on lower ball joint play to see what I'm talking about. If the ball joint separates while driving either by coming apart or the nut falling off, then you or someone else on the road can get seriously hurt.
For the CV joint, you can reassemble if the part that was separated wasn't damaged. Was the boot torn? Since the boot pulled from the housing, I'd probalby clean the grease from the housing still attached to the hub/wheel and the bearings on the other side. Look for damage on the rollers of the CV joint and also where those rollers go into the housing. Parts stores sell a packet of CV joint grease from Dorman that you can replace the old grease. I'd keep the small clamp on the boot and clean as best you can. There are also youtube videos on rebuilding Honda CV joints that you can watch to better understand what to do. As a temporary clamp, you can use a large hose clamp. I'd probably use 2 clamps connected to each other and have the screws 180 degrees away to keep the CV joint balanced.

FIXED! went to l&m and they had a new castle nut, i pulled the boot back, inspected the bearings and made sure i still had all three then i aligned them with the slots on the inner part and applied grease and it slid right in. then i dropped the ball joint into the lower control arm and screwed the castle nut in and installed new cotter pin. it will work for now until i can afford a new cv axle
